The Sultan Bahu Centre Dialysis and Cataract Projects Sultan Bahu Centre is a registered charity. NPO 024/017 | PBO 93/0009882 Based in the heart of Fordsburg we are a state of the art, fully equipped dialysis center established to assist patients who cannot access dialysis due to affordability issues. A project of the NPO Sultan Bahu, who for 15 years have been assisting patients by sponsoring treatment at other facilities until Sabera’s dialysis was established. The dialysis program was born out of the personal struggles with access to dialysis, by the founder of Sultan Bahu and his empathic concern for humanity. Our patients are usually turned away by state facilities for numerous reasons such as dialysis sessions being reserved for more severely ill patients or not qualifying for state treatment. At Sabera’s dialysis we not only assist with affordable and sponsored dialysis but also encourage a more sustainable approach by guiding our patients to obtain affordable medical aid. Upon entering our program we engage and involve the patients family/support to apply for an affordable medical aid if possible. We then assist with the cost of dialysis till the patient is able to obtain medical aid and the waiting period over. To date we have a 7 bed facility; 10 patients treated over 2 sessions in a day and numerous applications in the pipeline. By providing access to dialysis we are empowering our patients to live a full productive life and doing so in a sustainable manner as the unfortunate fact is dialysis treatment is lifelong.
